Subtraction uses the symbol, and is also known as minus.

How to subtract cells:

  1. Select a cell and type (=)
  2. Select the minuend
  3. Type (-)
  4. Select the subtrahend
  5. Hit enter

The number that the subtrahend subtracts from is known as the minuend.

By entering a () in between the cells, you can add extra cells to the formula.

Subtracting Two Manual Entries

Subtracting Using Absolute Reference

A cell can be locked and taken away from other cells.

How to proceed, in detail:

  1. Select a cell and type (=)
  2. Select the minuend
  3. Type ()
  4. Select the subtrahend and add two dollar signs ($) before the column and row
  5. Hit enter
  6. Fill the range

The number that the subtrahend subtracts from is known as the minuend.

Let’s see an example in which the fill function and absolute reference are used to remove B(5) from the range A1:A10.
