Excel TRIM Function

To maintain single spaces between words and eliminate erratic text spacing, utilize Excel’s built-in TRIM feature.

The typeface is =TRIM.

To apply the function to a single cell, type:

				
					=TRIM(cell)
				
			

If you want to use the function on a range of cells, write:

				
					=TRIM(start cell:end cell)
				
			

It should be noted that extraneous space inside the dataset that appears before, after, or in between text or numbers within a cell is referred to as irregular spacing.

Example TRIM Function

To clean up erratic gaps in the dataset inside the range A2:C21, use Trim.

Note: Use a colon (:) to divide the range values in order to specify the range:

How to Use TRIM Function

Step 1) Start the TRIM function

  1. Select a cell E2
  2. Type =TRIM
  3. Double click the TRIM command

Step 2) Select a range of cells to be used in the TRIM function

4. Select a range (A2:C21)

5. Hit enter

Trim -

Take a look at the values in the following example and give it a try!

The value range will be cleaned up.

The function returns a dataset with normal spacing removed:

Step 3): Apply the TRIM function with text spacing:

To format the text, use the =TRIM function by following the instructions in the preceding example:
