Excel STDEV.P Function
A pre-made Excel function called STDEV.P determines the Standard Deviation (Std) for the whole population.
The type is =STDEV.P.
Note: Cells containing logic and text are ignored by this function.
Note: The standard deviation (σ) expresses the distance between a “typical” observation and the data average (μ). Visit our Statistics – Standard Deviation Tutorial to learn more about standard deviation.
A tip: If you have the data for a sample, you can use another function called STDEV.S.
How to use the =STDEV.P function:
- Select a cell (H5)
- Type =STDEV.P
- Double click the STDEV.P command
- Select a range (E2:E755), including all Pokemons
- Hit enter
Let’s have a look at an example!
Find the Standard Deviation of Pokemon total stats in the range E2:E755:
Not every row is visible in the image. E2:E755 is the range (753 rows).
With success, the STDEV.P function returned 113,4497844 as the population’s standard deviation.
