Excel Tables

Tables can be created using ranges.

Data organization and structure are made simpler by tables.

Note: A table and the filter function are comparable. If sorting and filtering data is all that is required, then the filter can be used more effectively.

Tables unite cells within a range and arrange them into a set arrangement.

The formatting is the same for every cell in the table range.

Note: Data can be prepared for charts and pivot tables using tables.

Tables allow for options such as:

  • Sort & Filter
  • Formatting
  • AutoFilling

Note: Tables can be converted back to range.

Example

A range will take on a new form with a set structure when it is formatted into a table. Tables provide new features including styling, automation, and filtering.

Notably, row 1 of the range (A1:F22) already has headers. If you don’t already have one, you can create a dedicated header by unchecking the “My table has headers” option.

Tables -

Well done! It was successful to convert the range A1:F22 from range to table.

The range now has a set table structure and is provided with new features like sorting and filtering.

When sorting and filtering, the relationship between the columns is maintained by applying the filter.

Note: Refer to earlier chapters for more information on sorting and filtering.

The topic of Table Design will be covered in the following chapter.
