Highlight Cell Rules - Equal To
With Excel’s preset conditional formatting tool, Highlight Cell Rules, you can alter a range of cells’ appearances according to your own criteria.
One of the alternatives for the condition is Equal To…
The Highlight Cell Rules section of the conditional formatting menu looks like this:
Highlight Cell Rule - Equal To Example (with Numbers)
When the cell value is equal to the value you specify, the “Equal To…” Highlight Cell Rule will highlight a cell with one of the appearance options.
A specific word or number could be the provided value.
“48” will be the designated value in this example.
Any range can be selected as the one to which the Highlight Cell Rule should be applied. It could consist of a few cells, one row, one column, or a mix of several rows, columns, and cells.
Now let’s apply the rule to each and every stat value.
“Equal To…” Emphasize Cell Rule, sequentially:
- Choose the C2:H8 range for all stat values.
2. From the Home menu, select the Conditional Formatting iconĀ in the ribbon.
3. Choose Highlight Cell Rules from the option that drops down.
4. Click on Equal To… in the menu.
This will cause a dialog box to popup, allowing you to choose the appearance option and value.
5. 48 should be entered in the input area.
6. From the dropdown menu, choose “Yellow Fill with Dark Yellow Text” as the appearance choice.
Now, the cells with values equal to “48” will be highlighted in yellow:
Ditto has 48 stat values total, which is why they are all highlighted.
Note: Manage Rules allows you to remove the Highlight Cell Rules.
Highlight Cell Rule - Equal To Example (with Text)
Text values are also compatible with the “Equal To…” Highlight Cell Rule.
“Magikarp” will be the supplied text value in this case.
Any range can be selected as the one to which the Highlight Cell Rule should be applied. It could consist of a few cells, one row, one column, or a mix of several rows, columns, and cells.
Let’s use the Name values to implement the rule.
“Equal To…” Emphasize Cell Rule, sequentially:
- Choose the Name values range A2:A8.
2. From the Home menu, select the Conditional Formatting iconĀ in the ribbon.
3. Choose Highlight Cell Rules from the option that drops down.
4. Click on Equal To… in the menu.
This will cause a dialog box to popup, allowing you to change the appearance option and value.
5. In the input field, type Magikarp.
6. From the dropdown menu, choose “Yellow Fill with Dark Yellow Text” as the appearance choice.
Now, the cells with text values equal to “Magikarp” will be highlighted in yellow:
Note: Cells that precisely match the given value will be highlighted by the Equal To… Highlight Cell Rule.
To highlight cells with values that match the given value in any section, apply the Text That Contains rule.
